The author traces the evolution of Anglican plate from the 9th century Trewhiddle Chalice, the earliest extant piece of plate, through the secular designs of the Post-Reformation era and the 19th century Tractarian restoration of Pre-Reformation shapes to the simple and functional contemporary objects.
