Sobre este artículo
New York, NY: Modern Library/Random House, 1948. Hardcover. Very Good/Poor. TEXT/AS NEW w/trace margin discoloration & inexplicable loss to lower corner tips of pgs 217 & 219. Red linen boards/VG; strong w/light edge rubs. DJ/Poor; intact, price-clipped w/tattered edges & surface discoloration. 260 pgs. Three plays, written between 1920 & 1921, by 1936 Nobel Prize winner Eugene Gladstone O'Neill (1988 - 1953) who was a first to use dialogues in the American vernacular and tell stories of personages on the fringes of society. All three plays were well received on Broadway. All three wrestle with the ultimate misery of man even beyond social and physical woes of daily life. 1, Emperor Jones is the story of a Negro ruler of a small West Indian "nation"; 2, Anna Christie is a drama of the regeneration of a cynical prostitute, symbolic of man's ultimate fate; and 3, The Hairy Ape is that of Yank Smith, an egotistic and proud modern man with little reason to justify his self-assessment. Strong copy despite flaws.
