An unintended variant of the first edition, with the binder incorrectly inserting gathering B8 from the 1777 Annual, then realizing his/her error and inserting the correct B8 gathering after C8. Without the extraneous B8 gathering and the order of C8 and B8 corrected, the pagination would be iv, 112, *113-*192, 113-270, [1], [1-blank], 259, [9] pages (Todd's first edition for this work). Full calf. Contains the Declaration of Independence on pp 261-264 and the Articles of Confederation immediately thereafter, on pages 264-270. Todd notes there are five "editions" of this work, dated from 1777 through 1804. We offer the first edition of 1777, noting the first B8 gathering is extraneous and the next two gatherings (C8 and B8) are bound out of order.
