Some folds have been neatly reinforced on the blank side with archival-quality document repair tape. Buildings are represented by red squares, water in green. Double-page hand colored engraved map, 350 x 445 mm (18" x 14", decorative cartouche. Coloring likely done at a later date, but attractively applied, wide margins, very minor aging; a bright and clear impression. Guillaume Delisle (1675-1726) was a French cartographer who was considered one of the best of his age. He has even been referred to as the father of modern geography, and was appointed Premier Geographer to Louis XV in 1718. According to Tooley and Bricker his 1700 map of Africa added a level of accuracy that would hold value for decades to come. This map of Africa is map number 84 in Norwich's Maps of Africa. The coloring was probably done at a later date, but there is an attractive cartouche with several figures, including a man spearing a crocodile. An extremely scarce work. Johann Shroder (1600-1664) was a German physician and pharmacologist and is credited as the first person to recognise arsenic as an element - producing it by heating its oxide in 1649. This work was published in Latin in 1662. This copy has been recently rebound in half leather with marbled boards. The spine has gilt lined raised bands and titles. New endpapers have been added. Final 2 pages of text contain "Systematic Index of the Shells Described in Mr Lea's Memoirs: Volumes III., IV. and V." Isaac Lea (1792-1886) was an American geologist, conchologist, and publisher. This article by Lea was read before the Society on March 16, 1832. Very scarce. In Very Good+ Condition: disbound from a larger volume; pp. 109-119 detached from remainder of text block as a unit; light foxing, primarily in the margins of the text; plates are clean and bright.

New York: F. W. Beers, 1873. First Edition . Disbound. Fair/No Dust Jacket. Folio. Five sheets ONLY, disbound from a damaged and incomplete 1873 "Atlas of Douglas Co. Kansas." This Lawrence section is complete on the five sheets (pp: 23-38). One map is a single page, and the other four are double pages with at least one side folding. Each is approx. 15 inches in height. Moderate edge wear, with a couple tears entering the border along the upper edge of the last sheet. These last tears are roughly closed along about one inch of the folds, though there is also a little paper loss just a little lower on one fold. The first maps sheet also shows a couple small spots of paper loss along one fold. Overall, however, the images are intact and clear. At the time of this listing, WorldCat shows only seven copies and there are no auction records for this atlas.
