Sobre este artículo

Secaucus, NJ: Carol Publishing Group [A Lyle Stuart Book], 1990. First Printing [Stated]. Hardcover. Very good/Good. 24 cm. xxi, [1], 465, [7] pages. Illustrations. Documents. Glossary. Notes. Bibliography. Index. Sticker on DJ front. Some soiling to DJ. Inscribed on fep. While both authors names are present, the handwriting appears to be only from Janet Wallach. Janet Wallach is the author of The Richest Woman in America: Hetty Green in the Gilded Age, as well as Seraglio and Chanel: Her Style and Her Life. She is also coauthor, with her husband John Wallach, of three previous books on the Middle East: The New Palestinians; Arafat: In the Eyes of the Beholder; and Still Small Voices: The Real Heroes of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. She lives in New York City. John Wallach (January 18, 1943 - July 10, 2002) was an American journalist, author and editor as well as founder of Seeds of Peace international camp in Maine. Wallach was the Foreign Editor for Hearst Newspapers 1968-1995, as well as the 1st Visiting Affairs Correspondent for the BBC in 1980. In 2001, Wallach also gave a special address to a joint session of the Maine Legislature. His wife, Janet Wallach, is the former president of Seeds of Peace after Aaron Miller was president of the organization 2002-2005. Seeds of Peace is a summer camp that brings children from opposite sides of conflict from around the world together. It started in 1993, bringing together Arab and Israeli teenagers. Two months after the September 11th terrorist attacks, Wallach and Seeds of Peace hosted a conference for five days in New York City. There were approximately 150 visitors and representatives from all over the world. The conference was to prevent terrorism. The Wallach's have done a wonderful job in describing the life and works of Yasser Arafat, perhaps the most misunderstood person of the 1900s. In order to understand the present situation in Palestine/Israel, one has to read this book. The work details the life and political struggles of this important political leader. The Wallachs were able to spend hundreds of hours with Mr. Arafat and his entourage at the PLO's headquarters, thus providing a balance between the less personable side of Mr. Arafat and his substantial influence over the tenuous relationships between Palestinian factions. The book also focuses on Mr. Arafat as discussed by Jordan's King Hussein, Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, Israel's Yitzhak Shamir, as well as important American, Syrian and Iraqi policymakers.
