Rebacked with brown calf spine with 5 bands and rich gilt decoration & lettering over original ornately blind stamped, contemporary mottled brown calf boards. Hinges & text are tight & intact. One small engraved text figure. [16, 358pp, 8]. Leaves are generally bright & clean with last few pages, endpapers & some edges age toned. Armorial bookpate of John Orlebar (16971765) of Hinwick House, Bedfordshire. He was a British lawyer and Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1727 to 1734. Burnet considered whether The Fall of Man was a symbolic event rather than literal history. His views were totally unacceptable to contemporary theologians. Latin text. Philosophy, Religion. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 358 pages .
