Sobre este artículo
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1812 . First edition. Leather. Very Good. 12" by 9.5". Not Stated. The first edition of the third volume only of John Britton's study of the architectural antiquities of Great Britain. Illustrated with an engraved title page and sixty-nine plates, including one folding. Collated, complete.Published in five volumes between 1807 and 1835, this is the third volume only of this work from English antiquary, topographer, author and editor John Britton. This volume depicts and describes locations including the Collegiate Church of Manchester, St George's Chapel in Windsor, Norwich Cloister's and Cambridge's Round Church.A lovely first edition from Britton, a prolific writer on subjects surrounding the architecture of English sites. Britton's work, however, was later lampooned for its inaccuracies by Richard Harris Barham, writing under the name Thomas Ingoldsby, in two mock-antique ballads entitled 'Relics of Antient Poetry'. From the library of Doctor Malcolm Higgs, an important architectural historian who worked as an assistant architect to Stirling & Gowan, working on their particularly renowned Leicester University Engineering Laboratory. During his long career he taught at the University of Edinburgh School of Architecture, Canterbury School of Architecture, and University of Nottingham. Later in his life he was the Vice-President and Honorary Librarian of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and contributed and edited the "Journal of Architecture". Rebacked, in a full calf binding with original boards restored and back strip laid down. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with spotting throughout, most concentrated to plates and pages surrounding them. Very Good
