A very smart first edition of this illustrated study into the architecture of the Enlightenment era in France. First edition. With four hundred and twenty-four illustrations. A fascinating work on the changing architecture of the French Enlightenment era, exploring the development of some of its best-known monuments including: the Pantheon, the Odeon, the Monnaie, and much more. Includes commentary on the styles of leading architects of the time, and the triumph of French classicism. Written by Allan Braham, an English art historian, architectural historian, author and art gallery curator who was appointed Deputy Director at the National Gallery, London. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is very smart with light shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1982. Fine
