Superbly custom-bound in half-leather, patterned boards, with gilt spine decorations and titles, top-edge gilt. Neat owner's name of diplomat's spouse "Menton, 1923". A superb set with almost no sign of wear. We have matching bound volumes from the same period by Anatole France, de Maupassant and Rostand, as well as couple more Maurois (Byron and Disraeli).
