The expedition of the 'Wettertrupp Holzauge' with the weather observation ship 'Sachsen' on the coast of East Greenland under the direction of the meteorologist Weiss in the period from August 1942 to June 1943 experienced several spectacular developments due to the "war-related accompanying circumstances". After initial successes, it came to combat with a Greenlandic sled patrol, which were overwhelmed and prosecuted with the captured dog team. Later, the participants had to retreat due to American bombing in a temporary accommodation and to hold until the evacuation. In a second expedition, the 'Edelweiss Enterprise', Weiss once again sets out for East Greenland in 1944, but soon becomes a prisoner of war due to the torpedoes of his escort ship stuck in the pack ice. In order to continue the business, the German navy has to resort to the ad hoc founded troop 'Edelweiss II' aboard the fish steamer 'Externsteine' under the direction of Karl Schmid.
