The British novelist, May Sinclair produced over twenty novels, six collections of short stories, two works of philosophy, as well as poetry and literary criticism. Sinclair's books were perennial best-sellers until about 1930 when her talent and productivity were curtailed by Parkinson's Disease. In the 1980s her writings experienced a significant revival, especially in relation to feminist literary criticism. Sinclair's circle included Ezra Pound, HD, Rebecca West, Henry James, Thomas Hardy, Ford Madox Ford, and T. S. Eliot. She was a committed women's suffragist, and one of the first English novelists to incorporate psychoanalysis into her work. It was Sinclair who coined the literary term 'stream of consciousness.' Her novel "ARNOLD WATERLOW analyzes a family relationship stripped of everything extraneous to the psychological patterns and compulsions of Arnold's relation to his mother. She holds him to her, not by an unmixed love as she believes, but by appealing in her unconscious selfishness to the most decent qualities in his nature." - Angus Burrell (in THE NATION, Vol. 119 #3098, November 19, 1924)..
