Sobre este artículo
THE ART OF THE CHAIR IN EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY FRANCE 1730-1775
by Pallot, Bill G. B.
Published by ACR-Gismondi Editeurs, Paris (1989) ISBN 10: 2867700396ISBN 13: 9782867700392
Scarce and sought-after copy of the English language edition. Lavishly illustrated throughout.
Generally excellent condition with plastic jacket protector.
Considered the bible of French eighteenth century chairs, by the controversial expert Bill Pallot. In a recent scandal he was recently convicted of forging antique chairs sold to prominent collectors and state museums such as the Chateau de Versailles.
See Vanity Fair Article: AUGUST 2018 "How a Sneaky Furniture Expert Ripped Off the Rich and Tricked Versailles." Bill G. B. Pallot wrote the book on 18th-century French furniture and passed his knowledge on to his student Charles Hooreman. But when Hooreman, an antiques dealer, noticed a few discrepancies in benches headed for Versailles, he suspected his former professor and decided to intervene. BY ERIC KONIGSBERG JULY 10, 2018.
About:
A study of chair-carpenters, that recreates the environment centred around the leading figure Nicolas Heurtaut. Sculptors, gilders and upholsterers are the other professions which contribute to the elaboration of a chair. The book s theoretical section is completed with more technical observations, notably on the art of distinguishing an authentic piece from an imitation. The period covered extends from the end of the Regence style to the beginning of neo-classicism (1730-1775). The following artisans are discussed: Avisse, Blanchard, Boucault, Carpentier, Cresson, Delanois, Foliot, Gourdin and Tilliard..
