Sobre este artículo

Chris Beetles London, 2003 This brilliant catalogue is so much more than just a catalogue. It was compiled by Martin Baker, who curated the stunning exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum, and he used all his inside knowledge and professional contacts - which is all revealed inside. A gaspingly good example of the high standard of illustration used in Radio Times. Talent, skill, imagination, and enthusiasm drove all the artists and the art directors. Tight deadlines injected the adrenaline. The result is work of the highest standard. This large format book is beautifully printed, and this copy is unread and As New. I wish I could have seen the show at the Ashmolean, but at least one can enjoy this splendid survey, compiled with great sensitivity and inner knowledge by one of the outstanding artists who worked over several years for this publication. I am once again in thrall to the talent in the pages and moved to note the dedication to perhaps the best of all the RT artists, Robin Jacques. That thoroughly nice man had such a modest exterior I fear he did himself little good. I was struck by his genius - because that word is appropriate - when I was a teenager. Every week we bought the RT, and I would eagerly search through the drawings. Most were worth a look, many were superb, others were utterly timeless and of permanent value. Of these, the ones that seemed most consistently brilliant were credited to RJ. Martin Baker's forthright remarks are refreshingly off the national curriculum of what passes for art criticism these days. Thanks to him for doing such a splendid job. Truly informative, and so obviously springing from a positive attitude to the subject. The Tate should mount an exhibition of illustration art.
