Sobre este artículo

THE ASCENT OF RUM DOODLE - W.E. Bowman - Max Parrish, London, First UK edition, 1956, Hardback, in scarce dustjacket with spine piece missing, tape marks on both endpapers. Time-honoured classic of the first ascent of Rum Doodle, in the fashion of the true mountaineering epics of the 1950s. A parody of the Himalayan expedition stories documenting the ascent of Rum Doodle, estimated at somewhere around 40,000 feet, complete with confessions about the mountaineers' failures at romantic relationships, horrible camp cooking, lousy navigation and all the physical hardships of mountaineering at impossibly high elevations. Illustrations mainly from magazines/books of the day With the bookplate Ex Libris John Nankervis. THE IMAGE SHOWN ON BIBLIO IS THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING PURCHASED

Sinopsis

The Ascent of Rum Doodle is a short 1956 novel by W. E. Bowman (1911-1985). It is a parody of the non-fictional chronicles of mountaineering expeditions (notably Maurice Herzog's book Annapurna chronicling the first ascent of Annapurna in Nepal) that were popular during the 1950s, as many of the world's highest peaks were climbed for the first time. A new edition was released in 2001 with an introduction by the contemporary humorist Bill Bryson. It has been critically well received.

Barking Mad Books

Air parcel postage is expensive anywhere in the world. From New Zealand, to USA, UK and Europe a single 1kg volume costs about NZ$85 so allow this for many of the heavy books listed by Barking Mad Books. Since 1984, Barking Mad Books has used New Zealand postal service and all parcels have reached their destination. We use recyclable soft bubble plastic and ensure parcel is waterproof. Larger orders are sometimes shipped in padded boxes, again with all packaging recyclable. A courier service can be used...and may be slightly faster/safer...but will be charged at cost. 30 day return guarantee, with full refund including original shipping costs for up to 30 days after delivery if an item arrives misdescribed or damaged.
