Assembly Rooms. Admission Ticket to Mr. R.B. Hardy's Public Lecture and Illustrations

Allan & Ferguson Single sided engraved ticket, approximately 90mm x 60mm in size, n.p. but probably Glasgow, n.d. c.1841? Lightly browned, slightly rubbed with some loss to imprint, minor soiling, light glue stains to corners of reverse, printers name is indistinct but appears to be Allan & Ferguson. A ticket for 'front seats' in the Assembly Rooms, Glasgow, which were designed by the brothers Robert and James Adam, and aimed to provide the city with a meeting place for dancing, music, reading and other cultural pursuits. The Library contained upwards of two thousand volumes, in every department of literature and science, from which every purchaser of a lecture ticket was entitled to read for twelve months. R.B. Hardy is advertised in 'The Phrenological Magazine' as giving a lecture on the "genius and character of Burns" at the Anderston Popular Institution for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in 1841, so it is possible that this was another lecture on the same subject.
