Sobre este artículo
New York: Century Company, 1910. Very good condition. A group of British 5 soccer photographs taken to illustrate an article on "Association Football" for an article for The Century Magazine. The photographer ais possible S. R. Betts, as there is a tiny note in the top left corner on some of the backing cards stating such. The large labels state that the article is called "Sports, Eng. & Amer. II." The images include Queen's Park Rangers, Old Etonians A header - five men in the air; Cleverly taken away; Masters v. Old Etonians; A Corner; St. Andrews Day at Eton. The Field Games Masters v. Old Etonians "Rouge him!".
The Century Magazine was a leading illustrated monthly between 1885 and 1913, published by the Century Company, which started in 1881. The label on the verso of the cards on which the photographs are mounted states "The Century Co. 33 E. 17th St N.Y. Frank H. Scott Prest. Art Department A.W. Drake Director." That address was the flagship store for the Century Company; in 1892, Frank H. Scott took over as editor. The photos look to be about just after the turn of the century. The Century Company merged with Appleton in 1933.
The verso of the cards also have a variety of stock numbers and markings as would be pertinent to the Art Department. The one image that is not mounted also bears this stamp "Bowden Bros. 186, Buckingham Palace Rd., S.W. Acknowledgement of name under block not necessary". The images are approx. 4 1/4 x 6" and are very clear; 4 are mounted on card 7x5 1/2". The cards are brittle, some corners missing or cracked; some images are missing a corner. Overall, the images are clear and in good condition.
