Biography of French-American naturalist John James Audubon (1785 - 1851), known for his great illustrated work, The Birds of America (1827 - 38), and whose name the North American organization for the study and protection of birds honors. Constance Rourke (1885 - 1941) both graduated from and taught at Vassar; she was particularly interested in the American scene. This volume, written in 1936, is one of the fused, historical, biographical, and critical studies for which she is known.
