Sobre este artículo

MP3 Audio CD. The pressure and interference of European settlers soon meant that the 19th century Aboriginal tribes who used to thrive on the territory of New South Wales were in decline. Fascinated by their rich culture and folklore, K. Langloh Parker became one of the first to record the various stories, tales and legends of the Aboriginal people residing in the area, many of which were included in the book Australian Legendary Tales Folk-Lore of the Noongahburrahs As Told to the Piccaninnies.

The first edition of the book appeared in 1896, and contained over 30 tales translated from original Aboriginal folklore. Parker?s painstaking work in recording and translating these tales to English had, however, paid off in full. The stories were extremely popular at the time, even though they were only printed in London and Melbourne.

The book includes fascinating and unique tales that show the interaction between humans, animal spirits and various other supernatural beings. The setting is placed in a ?no-time? as ideas about creation are often alluded to.

There is a significant cultural and historic value to the book that today one can?t quite measure due to the decline of the native Australians? culture and its meld with the cultural traditions of European settlers. Basically, many of the tales included in the books can no longer be found as easily, especially if you?re looking for the original source. However, Parker manages to keep them alive through her work, as well as the work of her Aboriginal helpers.

Beautiful, rich, incredibly old and able to offer a window into the wisdom and understanding of a world long gone, these myths will help you get into the minds of Australian Aboriginals, and enjoy their insight on life in an entirely intimate manner. Today, these folktales are among the last remnants of a beautiful, thriving culture, captured before its imminent decline through Langloh Parker?s Australian Legendary Tales.
