The illustrations are mostly wood block, drawn from many other contemporary sources. The author was German who migrated to Australia where he became a doctor in Brisbane. This volume illustrates Lauterer's passion for the Aborigines and takes a full 90 pages to describe their culture, medicine and language. Large 8vo, (x) 482pp, color frontispiece & many black and white illustrations in the text. Original pictorial brown cloth covers stamped in black & gilt, slightly rubbed but still a bright clean copy in vg+ cond. Ferguson 11461.
