Cover spines very faded, rest very good in pictorial black carton with two edges loose. Born in 1855 in San Francisco of a gold seeking father, he got an engineering degree at Yale, worked in Mexico, was involved in wars and mining in Africa, then on to London and Russia. He was active in politics in the U.S. from Taft to FDR. Shows remarkable interpaly of an engineering career and activities on the world stage.
