Jefferson w/ his warm gift inscription, to the wife of one of his dearest friends, on half-title pg. Vg condition. Prev. owner's armorial bookplate. Front hinge very slightly loose at half-title pg, but no loosening of pages at all. Contents clean, no interior foxing, no "thumbing" to pages, binding firm. Outer vellum moderately smudged/browned, spine lettering somewhat dulled but fully legible. ix-xv, 501 p., illus. w/ b&w plates, tissue-protected frontis. portrait of Jefferson.
