Sobre este artículo

Chicago, (1921): The Christian Witness. First Edition. Octavo. 506 pages, illustrated. With an introduction by Bishop Thoburn of India. Amanda Berry Smith was born in slavery but became an African-American female evangelist. As a missionary she traveled to India and Africa from 1878 to 1890, and upon her return published a five-hundred-page autobiography hoping the sales would help pay for the orphanage in Chicago. She was twice-married and widowed, the first to a drunkard, the second to a minister who would not provide for basic family needs. She understood that race was always an underlying issue in America though her holiness church supporters were relatively free from it compared to most of the America she would see. A near fine copy bound in black pictorial cloth centrally stamped in gilt depicting a likeness of the author, spine lettering gilt, showing only very minor spots of rubbing.
