Sobre este artículo
The third bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee (1898-1935) and president of the National Council of the Episcopal Church (1922-25) was an influential educator who served as the University of the South's vice-chancellor (1890-93) and eighth chancellor (1908-35). ALS, 2pp (separate leaves), 5" X 8¼", n.p. (likely Sewanee, TN), 12 October 1892. Addressed to C.C. [sic] Gilman. Very good. Boldly penned and attractive, though adhesive-caused chip at upper left of first leaf (not affecting content) and matching stain at upper right of second leaf. On "The General Convention / House of Deputies" imprinted letterhead, Gailor writes the president of Johns Hopkins University Danial Coit Gilman (1831-1908): "The Trustees, Alumni & friends of the University of the South, will meet this (Wednesday) evening on the St. James Hotel for dinner at 6 O'Clock, & we all write in the hope that you may be able to be present with us. Sewanee owes so much to the Johns Hopkins already that she feels no hesitation in asking further favors & in taking for granted your warm interest in Southern education." Handsomely signed at the close, with his title below of "Vice Chancellor." What this relationship was between the two universities is unclear, though it's interesting that later on Johns Hopkins University would act as publisher for the University of the South's famed and highly influential literary magazine "The Sewanee Review.
