Autograph letter signed; to Sonia Shaw, June 17, 1963

New York. Letter folded for mailing; envelope with some annotations; photographs have some minor dents.. 3pp on two leaves of Famous Music Corporation (Paramount Pictures) letterhead, together with original mailing envelope and two photographs. An excellent letter, discussing Marlene Dietrich, for whom Bacharach was working as musical director at the time, as well as his own burgeoning career. "Work in my world here is best thats [sic] its ever been. Have had inside a span of two years about 14 hits and in this last year have been making them myself. . ." It was during this year that Bacharach formed his songwriting partnership with Hal David, one of the most fruitful collaborations of the era. The recipient, Sonia Shaw was a choreographer who had worked with Bacharach and Dietrich a couple of years earlier. The older of the two photographs is a 5 X 7 inch gelatin silver print showing the young Bacharach between Shaw and her husband, William Hitchcock. The second is a later 8 X 10 studio portrait of Bacharach for A & M Records, inscribed by Bacharach for Shaw in red pencil. A nice little archive showing one of the great American popular composers on the cusp of his greatest success.
