Mobile, AL, 1885. unbound. 1 page, 9.5 x 6 inches, Mobile, Alabama, April 12, 1885. Signed "Richard H. Wilmer" in his difficult-to-read handwriting, responding to an inquiry concerning church policy, in part: "...I report that it is out of my power to join the information sought in your letter of the 6th instant. Right Reverend Dr. Perry, Bishop, is his holiness of the American Church..." Natural folds; near fine condition.<br/><br/> The second bishop of Alabama in the Episcopal Church. He was the only bishop to be consecrated by the Episcopal Church in the Confederate States of America, which was done on March 6, 1862 in Richmond Virginia. As a staunch secessionist and slaveholder, he was a favorite among the hierarchy of the CSA including the General staff.<br/><br/>
