Jacobs was born in 1827 in Kingston, Jamaica. He served there as a rabbi and, after immigrating to America in 1854, in Richmond, Charleston, Augusta, New Orleans and New York (Bnai Jeshurun) . He was the first president of the Board of Jewish Ministers and the vice president of the New York chapter of the Alliance Israelite Universelle. He died in 1893." (Goldman) .
