Sobre este artículo
London & Capetown: J. C. Juta & Co., 1897. Cloth. Near Fine. 9" by 6". None. A lovely illustrated work detailing the life of mining entrepreneur Barney Barnato. Barney Barnato (1851-1897) was a British 'Randlord', an entrepreneur who controlled some of the diamond and later coal mines in South Africa. He died in mysterious circumstances near Madeira, with records stating that he was lost overboard. He was a rival to Cecil Rhodes, another mining magnate and Prime Minister of Cape Colony from 1890 to 1896 to whom he sold his stake in Kimberley the diamond mine. Rhodes went on to form De Beers.Banarto's son later bankrolled W. O. Bentley in their Le Mans winning period. In the publisher's original binding.Illustrated with six full plate photographs including a frontispiece and four full plate cartoons. In a full cloth binding. Externally very smart, minor wear to the spine and bumping to the head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pencil inscription to verso of front endpaper, remnants of tape used to pastedowns, pages otherwise bright and clean. Near Fine
