From the introduction: ''A great lawsuit about a game of cards? The Baccarat Case, as it was known in Great Britain, was a defamation action involving an allegation that a British nobleman and close friend of the Prince of Wales had cheated at baccarat. More was involved that the reputation of the nobleman, for the Prince had participated in the card game as was called as a primary witness. Royalty and nobility were thus on trial along with the games they played and the rules they played by, and the company they kept.''
