Pels, Albert (American, 1910-1998). BALLET PRACTICE - LINCOLN CENTER. Oil on Canvas. Not dated, but circa 1970s. Signed, lower right. Inscribed, verso, "Ballet Practice" and "Lincoln Center."20 x 25 3/4 inches. A small area of waterstain to the verso of the canvas, lower left, not coming through to the recto, else in very good condition. Pels was a painter, muralist, illustrtaor and teacher. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but spent most of his life in New York. Scenes relating to New York City, such as this dance painting, are typical of the social realist subjects he focused on.
