New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1929. First Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's original orange and blue patterned paper-boards over black spine cloth lettered in gilt. Near Fine with gilt lettering rubbed, wear to foot of spine, faint foxing and a few small nicks to the textblock edge and pages tanned, but still a very sharp and bright copy, in a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with dust-soiling, slight fading to spine and chipping to spine ends. A nice example of the dust jacket, which was designed by Aaron Douglas.
Sinopsis
Lincoln Agrippa Daily, known on the 1920s Marseilles waterfront as “Banjo,” prowls the rough waterfront bistros with his drifter friends, drinking, looking for women, playing music, fighting, loving, talking about their homes in Africa, the West Indies, or the American South, and about being black.
