Bottles for dozens of types of spirits are included, as well as a lemonade dispensing device, and two pages of fine leather goods. Some offsetting throughout; rear wrapper panel soiled, but mostly clean and bright. Some early ink scribbles to front wrapper verso, otherwise generally very good or better. Scarce. A promotional drink manual, promoting Minneapolis' very fine Dyckman Hotel. One hundred-one recipes for cocktails are listed, including some lesser-known gems: American Beauty, Careless Love, Bijou, Charlie Horse, Opalescent, and the Electric Eel. [With many manuscript additions, some merely altering a printed menu, many written on blank leaves, and others on scraps of paper, tipped-in. Notable are Jams, Cabinet Pudding, Suet Pudding, Soda Cake, Raspberry and Mulberry Vinegar, tomato sauce, cooking scarlet and French beans, boiling vegetables, Mulberry Syrup, Mince Pies, Eloise (?) While Sloppy Joe's is renowned as a bar, it's role as an important liquor store is less known. Charles Baker, in his South American Gentleman's Companion, recommends Sloppy Joe's (as well as Canal Liquor of Panama City) for those in search of difficult to find ingredients such as Pisco Brandy. ~ The original Havana Sloppy Joe's was the destination for thirsty Americans during Prohibition and after.
