Colette or Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, born on 28 January 1873 and died on 3 August 1954. She was a French author nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. Her most popular, the novella Gigi in 1944, was the reference for the movie and Lerner and Loewe stage production of the similar title. She was also a mime, an actress and a journalist.

Her parents were a war hero and tax collector Jules-Joseph Colette and his wife Adèle Eugénie Landoy Sidonie or Sido, in the village of Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye in the département of Yonne, Burgundy. The family was wealthy at first, but when she attended school, they experienced financial loss due to mismanagement of her father?s income and she enrolled in a public school from the ages of 6 to 17. At that time, that was a fully far-reaching instruction for girls.
