His eye-witness account includes his experience transitioning into a new role, and of the intensity of battle. He notes this book is less about the world political climate than about individuals in battle in the company of others: soldiers, engineers, officers. General Noce, in his Foreword, recommended this work to soldiers in training, to help them understand what is coming. It was published soon after the battle, and author Lt. Ralph Ingersoll's reporting is keen in setting scenes and events that followed as he observed them.
