Sobre este artículo

Boston: Hilliard, Gray, and Company, 1836. Hardcover. Fair. Hardcover. 7 1/4" X 4 3/4". xii, 108pp. Heavy wear to paper over boards with rubbing, toning, bumps, and soiling to covers, corners, and edges. Inked notation to front cover dated 1843. Cloth has been torn away at head of spine. Dust-spotting to edges of text block. Inked notation at half title page reads, "Margaret Graham, Macon College, Ga. 'What is friendship but a name'." Rather heavy toning and foxing to pages. Binding is barely intact with text block connected to boards in two places by string.

In this classic work of military history, author Jean Charles L. Simonde de Sismondi offers a detailed account of two of the most important battles in medieval European history: Cressy and Poitiers. With a literal interlinear translation and insightful commentary, this edition is an essential resource for anyone interested in the art of war.(Publisher)

Jean Charles Léonard de Sismondi (1773-1842), a Swiss historian and political economist, is renowned for his contributions to French and Italian history as well as his economic theories. His work "Nouveaux principes d'économie politique, ou de la richesse dans ses rapports avec la population" (1819) is a pioneering liberal critique of laissez-faire economics. Sismondi advocated for progressive ideas such as unemployment insurance, sickness benefits, a progressive tax, regulation of working hours, and a pension scheme. Notably, he coined the term "proletariat" to describe the working class in a capitalist society and discussed "mieux value," foreshadowing the concept of surplus value. His writings significantly influenced socialist criticism of modern industry, earning him mention in the Communist Manifesto.

Sobre Underground Books, ABAA

Underground Books is an online rare and antiquarian bookshop as well as a brick and mortar general bookstore of the same name in downtown Carrollton, Georgia. Sister store Hills & Hamlets Bookshop is located in the nearby planned eco-community of Serenbe.

Co-owners Josh Niesse and Megan Bell met in 2011, just 10 days or so after Josh opened the doors of Underground Books, literally underground, several steps below street level in a 100-year-old basement in our historic downtown. Megan, an English student at the University of West Georgia, walked in, fell down the rabbit hole, and never left! Reader, we married in May of 2014, under the book arch that now resides at the bookshop. We are both proud alumni of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS), and Megan additionally of Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and of the ABAA Women's Initiative Mentorship Program.

We have two open bookshops that carry new, used, bargain, rare, and antiquarian books, as well as our online office, impossible without our incredible team of booksellers, including two fellow CABS graduates, Miranda McMillan and Suzanne Carnes.

Like many booksellers with open brick-and-mortar stores, we are passionate generalists, but our specialties are in decorative publisher's cloth bindings; fairy tales, folklore, and mythology; popular science and natural history; the occult; and fine press books.
