Small octavo, 192pp. Yellow cloth, title on spine in maroon. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. Solid text block, spine darkened with transference to interior hinges and gutter, lightly bumped corners. Text is clean. In publisher's dust jacket, $3.00 retail price on front flap, faint sunning to spine, small closed tear to top edge, light wear to corners. Jacket designed by Richard M. Powers. (Currey, page 388). The Beast Master is the first book in Norton's Hosteen Storm series. Storm, a former soldier with telepathic connections to a group of genetically altered animals, travels to another planet for work and revenge. The book received acclaim from international sources, with its sequels earning Sir Julius Vogel Awards in New Zealand.
