Sobre este artículo

London: Others.... Good with no dust jacket. 1808. First Edition. Hardcover. One Volume in the series - 'Beauties of England and Wales'. This series originally published in 25 volumes. This volume forms most of the KENT Volume, but 'Kent' started athe end of Vol. VII which forms Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, and the first part of Kent. The Volume is bound in full leather with 5 raised bands, Gilt titling on 2 labels and gilt decoration to each compartment. Probably contemporary or near contemporary bindings. The spine has some flaws/damage, splitting to the edges of the spine - the front board is only holding on by one 'string'. Some small chipping with a tiny loss to the head/tail of the spine, but rear hinges holding despite some splits and overall an attractive book. ALL Edges Marbled. The volume has marbled endpapers and 2 former owners labels to the front pastedown - just the printed names in fancy old type - Bevington Gibbins and, below, his son - Frederick J. Gibbins ( Bevington Gibbins born 1792 in Aston, Birmingham, married Rebecca Tregelles, The Tregelles-Price family were owners of the Iron Works in Neath Abbey. ). On the ffep opposite is the bookplate of 'Neath Antiquarian Society'. The volume has a copper engraved Frontispiece (very spotted) and engraved title, followed by a printed title. The printed title shows it as Vol VIII - and the foot of the spine also reads Vol. VIII. No plate list, the contents start at page 611 to pp 1366 + 20 pp 'List of Books' + 25 pp Index + 33 Plates + Copper engraved b/w frontispiece + engraved title. It seems as if different paper stock was used for different sections of the book as some page blocks are lightly browned throughout, some pages with foxing spots/patches, to the margins mainly, and others generally very clean, tho all text readable at all times. Some general foxing spots/patches and thumbing here and there, some browning to the pages opposite the plates, 'tho for most part the plates are generally pretty clean, but some have foxing/patching to the margins. At the time of listing I have other volumes in this series, in uniform bindings, but in various conditions - please enquire if interested. See Images. ; The Beauties of England and Wales; Large, Thick, 8vo 9" - 10" tall .
