New York: The Gast Art Press (The Gast Lith. and Eng. Co.), 1890. First Edition. Paper pastedown on boards. Near Fine. 4to. 12 by 9 inches. Unpaginated. Each chromolithographic plate is accompanied by two pages of text describing the epoch and the woman representing it. The women include a druidess, a Roman maid, a Saxon, a Norman, a "White Rose of York", one from the early Tudor period and one from the Elizabethan Age, a Puritan maiden, ones from the reigns of King Charles II, Queen Anne and George II and finally, a woman from Regency England. Clean and tight within, with the original decorative endpapers. Light soiling and edgewear to the binding. Tissue guards intact.
