[9], 10-187, [3] pp. Green publisher's cloth with gilt lettering and decorations and a gilt border on the front board, gilt lettering and decorations on the spine; all edges gilt. Illustrated with several full-page drawings done in black and white by F.C. Gordon. The American first is not outlined in Wise's bibliography. Tennyson's dramatization of the brutal demise King Henry the VIIIth inflicted on Thomas Becket. The bottom corner of the first illustration clipped, a small dampstain to the bottom corner of the first several leaves.
