The symphony was composed in 1806 and first performed in Vienna on March 15, 1807. It is one of Beethoven's most popular and well-known symphonies, and is considered to be one of the greatest works of classical music. The symphony is in four movements: Allegro vivace Adagio Allegro vivace Allegro ma non troppo The first movement is in sonata form and begins with a slow introduction. The second movement is in a slow tempo and is in a lyrical style. The third movement is a scherzo, which is a fast and lively movement. The fourth movement is in sonata-rondo form and is the longest movement of the symphony. The symphony is scored for a full orchestra, including woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion. It is a powerful and dramatic work, and is considered to be one of Beethoven's most important compositions. The symphony is scored for flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B-flat, 2 bassoons, 2 horns in B-flat and E-flat, 2 trumpets in B-flat and E-flat, timpani, and strings. It typically takes between 30 and 35 minutes to perform.
