Very rare (no other available) comprehensive study of townhouses in 17th and 18th century Saxon towns of Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz and Freiberg, covering the development of Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classical townhouses. Includes fire regulations, facade painting, the development of the floor plans. Illustrations cover details of decorative woodwork, etc. Detailed history of the buildings included. This dissertation was published by a company noted for their lithographic and collotype printing. Many of the buildings shown here were destroyed during WWII. This thesis was submitted to Prof Th Bohm and Prof Fritz Schumacher, who was a noted architect, professor and rban planner, co-founder of the German Werkbund and promoter of modern brick architecture in Northern Germany.
