Limited edition, no 474 of 500. With 6 colored original lithographs by Oscar Laske, two signed in plate. Blue original solid Interim cardboard binding. with title and spine labels, Rough cut paper edges. No slipcase. No foxing, spots or damages throughout. First edition of the first chapter, written in the years 1910 to 1913 and with the preface "An den Leser". With this humorous work, Thomas Mann planned a parody of Goethe's autobiography "Poetry and Truth", but was never able to complete the novel despite several attempts. Extended versions appeared in 1937 and 1954.
