Sobre este artículo
This is a collection of essays on city life, "BELSHAZZAR COURT" - or, Village Life in New York City by Simeon Strunsky. 1914 1st edition, 1st printing (October); Henry Holt and Company; New York. There are two plates with smaller illustrations on them. The contents are as follows: Belshazzar Court; The Street; The Show; The Game; Night Life; Laurelmere in Peace and War; School; Harold and the Universe.
"We have been called a nation of villagers, and Mr. Strunsky in these sketches discourses in a friendly way on some of our village characteristics. He writes from the point of view of the man who has an uptown apartment, with rent just a trifle higher than he can afford, in Belshazzar Court, and who travels daily to his place of business in Park Row via the subway."
"Few have the power or the inclination to see in the complexities of modern city life the simplicity and kindliness of human nature, essentially the same everywhere, but that is the chief charm of these essays."
Condition:
Clean front cover; light soiling at the bottom of the spine; tiny stain spot at the right edge of the back cover; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The text pages are in excellent condition - clean with only some light foxing to a few pages at the front and a few pages at the back. The rear pastedown has a few random letters/numbers written in pen at the top edge ("917.47 N SI-83")...no other writing found. Some pages are still attached along the bottom edge. Overall the book is in very good condition.
