A gorgeous collectable copy.

Large octavo, 555pp., portraits and illustrations, dark bluegreen cloth with gilt lettering and gilt picture of a Civil War sharpshooter crouching in a field. One can see where old library spine label, now gone, was once at heel of spine and one printed number on dedication page but no other library marks. Fair, inner hinges cracked, a few pages have tiny closed tears or faint wrinkles, entire text is slightly toned, cover discolored and somewhat worn, spine ends reinforced. Text clean and binding secure. Scarce title. Sold as is. .

Soiled and rubbed green cloth covered boards with gilt titles heavily rubbed, splattered water stains. Front cover partially detached, first two pages detached but present. Foxing throughout. A rare title and remarkably this copy is complete, the block as a whole being quite nice and some tlc toboards would rejuvenate this copy. .

Dark bluegreen cloth with gilt illustration of sharpshooter, title in gilt. Inscribed, signed and dated [Christmas 1900] by George E. Albee, who was a member of the Wisconsin Sharpshooters in 1862. His photograph is opposite page 190 in the book. Condition: Cover illustration and title are faded, spine dulled. Bottom of spine has some frays as usual, corners bumped. Interior has a resolution from the Association of Survivors of the 36th Wis. Vol. Infantry pasted down to rear endpaper. Text clean, binding sound. Mark to bottom edge near front corner. All in all a good+ solid copy. Comprehensive history enlivened by numerous personal narratives. Note: The inscription is from George Albee to his sister. George E.
