Colour frontispiece, eight colour paintings and 20 sketches specifically commissioned for this edition from award-winning artist, Alan Lee. Housed in a matching slipcase, also embellished with stamped gold foil motifs. Tall 8vo. Volume and slipcase in fine condition. In this book, Christopher Tolkien attempts to extract the story of Beren and Luthien from the comprehensive work in which it was embedded, and tells of his father's experience of giving it form, together with passages in prose and verse from later texts that illustrative the core narrative.
