Sobre este artículo
Amsterdam, Wed. Aart Dirksz. Oossaan, 1693-1694.2 volumes. Large folio. Contemporary red morocco, with central gilt ornament within gilt fillets, with gilt crowns in the corners, a.e.g. (hinges sl. damaged but firmly holding, spines discoloured and spine ends sl. damaged). With woodcut coats of arms on each title-page, title-page printed in red and black, engraved frontispiece by G. van Gouwen after P. Tideman, 57 maps, plans and plates, (46 double-page) and 77 half-page engravings. (20),1223,(40) pp.A very fine large paper copy of the rare first edition, published posthumously. - This is the best 17th century description of Amsterdam, based on the works by the predecessors Dapper and Van Domselaar and on materials furnished by the author's father Isaac Commelin. The author (1636-1693) descended from a family of book printers, booksellers and publishers, had free access to the archives of the city and therefore his work contains much more reliable sources and official documents than the works by Dapper and Van Domselaar. An extensive description of Amsterdam, with all the fine views, maps and plans of Amsterdam in strong impressions, including the large panoramic view of Amsterdam seen from the IJ and 11 engravings by Jan Luyken. - Scarce first edition.Nijhoff - Van Hattum 66; Van Eeghen & Van der Kellen 223.
