Brown paper boards with dirty Tan cloth spine, words still readable but there is fraying to the ends and some small tears and a little bit missing bottom cloth. According to Merle Johnson, there are 2 states to this book and the one with letters(B H) on the front cover 9/16ths tall should be considered the 1st. Since I have 2 of those books, I'm claiming them 1st state. Previous Owner's Name at the bottom of the 1st leaf in ink, a touch of shelf wear to the corners. This is his 1st Pulitzer Prize Winner.
