New York: McGraw Hill, 1957. Signed and inscribed by author in German on fep and dated 1959. Book has an interesting provenance. It is inscribed to Dr. Wolfgang Hochheimer, a German gestalt psychologist and Freudian psychiatrist who wrote a 1969 book on Carl Jung. The author, Dr. Martin Grotjahn was himself an eminent psychiatrist. 284 pages including index. Green cloth cover has some soil and wear to top and bottom of spine, corners and edges. Bumped lower corners. There are creases to the front cover at lower corner. Spot of soil to bottom of book. Small spot inside crease on contents page. Contents include: Sigmund Freud and the Psychoanalysis of Jokes; The Technique of Jokes; The Unconscious Tendancies of Jokes; Pleasure Mechanism and Psychogenesis; Different Forms of the Comic; On Humor; Freud's Later Contribution to the Psychoanalytic Problem of Humor; About the Jewish Joke; The Laughter of the Homeric Gods and the Absence of Laughter in the Bible.
