Sobre este artículo

London: R. H. Porter,, 1899. First edition of this richly illustrated ornithological, botanical, and geological work detailing the results of the expeditions undertaken by Pearson and Feilden to the extreme north east of Europe in 1895 and 1897 upon the Saxon and the Laura. Pearson (1850-1913) was a fellow of The Royal Geographical Society, and a member of the British Ornithologists' Club and The Royal Horticultural Society. This work was noted for its contributions to the understanding in those societies of the Arctic region. This copy has the bookplate of the arctic explorer William Herbert Hobbs (1864-1953) to the front pastedown. Hobbs led four expeditions to Greenland to study the region's geology and the nature of glaciers. Large octavo. Original green cloth over bevelled boards, titles to spine and front cover in gilt, illustration to front cover in gilt, top edge gilt, black coated endpapers. Title page printed in red and black. Colour frontispiece of bird eggs, 88 black and white plates, 2 folding maps, and numerous illustrations in the text. Minor rubbing to extremities, gilt remarkably bright, a couple of very light scuffs to rear cover, book block square, faint foxing to fore edge, hint of offsetting from frontispiece; a beautiful copy in near-fine condition.
