Edinburgh: W. Sutherland, 1823. First edition. Includes the "Dramatis Personae," presumably from the Caledonian Theatre perfomance, and the play itself but not any music. Illustrated with twelve unattributed hand-colored plates, including the frontis. Cruikshank bibliographer Albert M. Cohn's copy with his bookplate on front pastedown, above which he's penciled, "of the greatest rarity/ have seen no other copy/ AMC." (OCLC locates a handful of copies in libraries). Gilt-stamped brown leather-backed brown cloth boards. Hinges starting, spine ends and tips worn, scattered foxing and staining but still relatively clean and tight and, altogether, about very good. Housed in marbled paper lined silk moire chemise and gilt-stamped leather-backed red cloth slipcase which are both fine.

En 8vo. Maravillosa encuadernación de época en pergamino completo sobre tablas. Las esquinas de las cubiertas teñidas de verde. Primer marco de marfil pulido con un gran borde estampado a mano, que huellas de dorado original. El marco verde con estampillas doradas y el campo en el centro decorado con numerosas ornamentaciones diferentes, entre ellas un gran jarrón con una flor. Con los corchetes originales y las corbatas de bronce, una de ellas renovada. Siete compartimentos de la lomera con estampado ornamental. Una pequeña esquina de la etiqueta del título desgastada. Todos los bordes dorados y con ornamentaciones cinceladas, así como grandes ornamentaciones teñidas de marrón. Bisagras restauradas con pergamino. Guardas hechas a mano con motivos florales de colores impresos. Canto con hoja de oro ligero desgaste con orlas y florones pintados a mano.
La Biblia fue enriquecida con 120 grabados que no pertenecen a esta edición, sino que fueron tomados de una Biblia de Lutero Germana de la época, en formato similar (Nürnberg, Creutz & Ludewigen, 1736)

Johnson September 1934" in black ink HER FULL Signature(as full as I've ever seen her signature) just 2 months after the publishing date...And there is a later issue Dustjacket too, with the fold-out flap. BOOK details first: Brown cloth covers with paper labels, the spine label is 95-97% gone but I have an answer for it at the end of the description, one on the front nice, light rubbing, light shelf wear, all corners touch of wear or rounding, the spine ends are worn to the point of fraying(but not bumped) and a very slight lean. But inside is beautiful, no markings other than the Signature, inside the covers are beginning to age tone but that's it, unread tightness...The Dustjacket has a few problems too, there is soiling, rubbing, and chips, the worst chip is the top of the spine taking out the Now and 1/2 of in of the…
