San Francisco: Printed at The Grabhorn Press, 1957. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. One of 225 copies, folio size, 119 pp., inscribed "from Bob and Jane Grabhorn" and dated May, 1957. A limited, fine letterpress edition of the second volume of the Grabhorn bibliography, printed by Edwin & Robert Grabhorn, Jane & Mary Grabhorn and Sherwood Grover, inscribed to the prior owner "For ----- / with deep affection, as always / from Bob and Jane Grabhorn / May, 1957" (we believe in Jane's hand). Beautifully printed with specimens from numerous publications laid in, an essential item for any collector of the Grabhorn Press.
___DESCRIPTION: Original quarter red morocco and decorative red and white paper covered boards, backstrip lettered in gilt, fore-edge and tail-edge ucut, inscription from Jane and Bob Grabhorn (as set forth above) in ink at the top of the front free endpaper, title-page in red, black and gilt, with illuminated initials and text printed in black and red throughout, illustrated fold-out of printer's devices from the press, six reprinted title-pages or pages of text, one canceled illustration, ten original sheets/leaves/signatures bound in, one "illustration showing different surfaces for the printing of colors", and one page of mounted specimens of binding papers; folio size (14.25" by 10.5"), pagination: [i-vi] vii-xxix [xxx-xxxii] 1-119 [1 colophon], one of 225 copies of the limited first edition.
___CONDITION: A near fine copy, the leather smooth and supple, the text block strong and square with solid hinges, internally bright, and the only prior owner markings being the gift inscription; the binding showing a short tear to the top of the back joint (approx. 1"), a few very minor spots of wear and very light wear to the edges of the boards; still a lovely copy of a desirable bibliography of one of the best of American private presses.
